Well-Body Care
You don’t need to be pregnant to have a midwife. Midwives also provide routine gynecological care and family planning services.
Well-body visits (sometimes called gyn exams or annual exams) are visit designed to provide preventative care with a focus on reproductive health. At a typical well-body visit we discuss changes in health, family planning, sexual health, breast health, and contraception. A well-body visit may include a physical exam, pap, STI testing, and a breast/chest exam as well as general assessment of health.
Typically, well-body visits are done annually, though the recommended frequency varies based on an individuals circumstances. The recommended interval for routine pap testing is 3-5 years depending on what type of test is done, a person’s age, and their health history. Recommended intervals for STI testing vary based on risk factors.
In most cases health insurance companies cover the cost of an annual well-body visit, but coverage depends on your plan. Payment is due at the time of service. Insurance coded receipts are available for those that would like to submit them to their health insurance company to request reimbursement.
