Hybrid Care

You don’t have to birth at home to have a midwife.

Pregnancy, labor, and settling into life with a new family member are dynamic processes that are different for every person. Whether you are looking for a doula for your hospital birth, extra support for a planned VBAC, or more extensive prenatal or postpartum care to complement conventional care, you can have the support of a skilled midwife and lactation consultant at your side. Care can be tailored to meet your needs and birth plans.

What hybrid-care options are available?

Care options can be tailored to meet the needs of the clients. In some cases people desire doula care for a hospital birth. Doula care offers emotional and physical support through the course of labor. A doula is not the care provider, but someone who’s focus is on you and your experience of the process instead of the medical management.

Some clients choose co-care. In these situations clients receive care from a provider in a conventional care setting and also receive routine prenatal care from Birch Moon Midwifery & Lactation Care. I work with both the client and the other care provider to determine the best schedule of care. Typically midwifery postpartum care is home-based and more frequent than hospital-based postpartum care. Some clients choose to birth in the hospital but receive all or some of their postpartum care from Birch Moon Midwifery.

Essentially the services of Birch Moon Midwifery are offered a la carte and you can choose the pieces of midwifery care you need or want to put in place the level of support that feels best for your circumstances.

Do you provide hybrid-care for planned VBACs?

Indeed! In fact, VBAC births are a passion of mine. I provide care in collaboration with hospital-based, VBAC-supportive care providers for clients that previously birthed in the operating room. VBAC clients can have the benefits of hour-long prenatal visits and extensive, in-home postpartum care while also having the safety of hospital-based birth.

What is the cost of hybrid-care?

The fee for doula care is $1,600. This includes two one-hour prenatal meetings to discuss birth plans and two one-hour meetings after the birth to provide postpartum and lactation support. Payment plans are available and it may be possible to submit a claim to your health insurance company.

Other models of hybrid care are billed based on the services provided.
